Frogs and snails and puppy-dogs' tails...

...that's what little boys are made of.

...which is kind of exciting considering my brothers wife is due soon and she's having a boy!
Oh and beards and elephants... pretty sure they are made of those too! ;)
My brother and his wife were happy to help me pick out the right kind of colors for these projects. They are in Iowa so we did a lot of picture taking and texting! :D The elephant set to match the nursery and the hat and beard set to match my brothers beard. ^-^

The pattern for the elephant lovely & rattle set will be available in my etsy shop, eventually :).

I freehanded the hat & beard because I couldn't find a pattern online.
The hat is knit and the beard crocheted to match the photo my brother sent me.
The buttons were added to face away from the babies head so that they wouldn't rub against babies head and mom and dad can adjust the beard to sit where they want it. :)

I can't wait to see the little man play with these things or wear them!
Good times are ahead! :D
Thank you for looking!

Blueba & Boba Fett - Star Wars Amigurumi

If you've been following this blog for any length of time you'll know I am *super* picky when it comes to colors... I'm usually a pretty good judge of what will work and when I'm not, I usually don't get too far into a project before I change my mind. This project was the exception.

I'm a star wars fan as far as I'll watch the movies and enjoy them, but it stops there. My husband however, is a fan as well as many of his friends. All of which I'm thankful for, it helps me to appreciate movies in a much different way than I ever would have otherwise. In this instance, my husband was very instrumental in how this project turned out. My sister and I went to Michael's to find the sacred color for Boba Fett's main color. The pattern from Lucyravenscar looks like a mild variegated green blue. Cuyahoga Valley would have been perfect Michaels did NOT have this color though... womp womp... so my sister and I grabbed a navy blue/teal blue blend by Lions Brand - their heartland series color - glacier ( I LOVE THIS series by the way! All the earthy colors are GORGEOUS and make me happier than they should ;)) I went home, worked up 2 heads and the main body showed it to my husband that night to see what he thought and he lovingly told me Boba Fett's uniform/armor was not blue, if anything I could do gray. I pulled out all the green yarn I had as well to show him because having spent 5 hours working on the Boba Fetts I had already I was discouraged and needed him to back me on the fact that I did not have the right kind of green to make it look like Boba Fett. :) To my relief, he agreed all the green yarns I had were much too dark. I felt my trip to Michaels was validated and he even went on to say I need to get more yarn - lol - true story ;). Since I'm looking for a job I'm not about to run out again to be tempted Michaels, my husband said gray would work, which made me quite happy. I have lots of shades of gray. ^-^ The next day I worked on the gray Boba Fett and took a few pictures of the pair. My husband is keeping the blue guy and he gave him a fitting name of Blueba Fett. I love it! :) He totally helped me redeem my time and added his wonderful humor - lol it's good stuff. ^

At any rate I hope you like the set here too! They are definitely not your run of the mill Boba Fett amigurumi's. :) ...and I'm okay with that. ♥

Want a Elf hat?! I have that too!!! ^-^ Find it here...

I like options. What about you? :) What else would you like to see offered as ornaments in the shop?

PS - there are Christmas Patterns available here! :D

While I'm about to list these ornaments... I wondered - would you prefer them as garlands?

It would be big star, little star, big start, etc. 9 stars in each color.

Decorating for Christmas while Renting...

...means no holes in the walls.

True, depending on how lenient your landlord is you may be able to get away with thumb tacks to hold some things up. However in this case we aren't pushing our luck. ;)

I gave away our tree, lights and many of our generic Christmas decorations before we moved. I whittled down my Christmas decor stash to fill about 3/4 of a medium sized box. I have a few glass ornaments and items I have picked up over the years that I wouldn't part with and put a majority of them up. I love decorating for Christmas - once the lights and the garlands are up, it usually reminds me of a log cabin... so cozy!

In any case, this year for decorating I made cinnamon ornaments to hang by the blinds and string up around the mantle. I made a batch that I baked in the oven and another that I let air dry over a few days time. The batch of stars I baked had one hole for threading and the batch I let air dry I put two holes in to string those together. In all I ended up with 23 stars. Our place smelled of cinnamon goodness and still does! ^-^

For those of you who are renting and might not have room for a tree or have to follow strict guidelines of "no holes in the walls" I'm sharing my decorating photos. I hope they give you ideas of your own to add a little bit of cozy to your home for the holidays!

The only screw on the walls that came with the house was the one above the fire place. The twig wreath *had* to go there ;).

You'll notice we don't have any lights this year, but I trust in the years to come I'll build my Christmas inventory back up and I'm in no rush. :)

Merry Christmas friends! What is your favorite part about this Holiday season?

Studying the Stars... 5 Free Star Crochet Patterns

..it was absolutely necessary if I wanted to make them for my etsy shop again. Since we moved halfway across the country I managed to pack my patterns and am at a loss for which box they might be in. I've already exhausted my pinterest boards to see if I may have pinned said star pattern. No dice, if I did pin it, it wasn't labelled "star". I had to figure out the pattern to make these stars to list in my shop - ergo, I studied the stars.I suppose it's okay though, it's given me another project AND pattern to share with you here. Though I need to stop this! ;) If I show you all the patterns I use you'll never buy anything from my etsy store - lol

All stars were made using worsted weight cotton yarn and size H/8-5.00MM

Free Amigurumi Pattern for Body of Large Doll

It's always quite an anticlimactic thing to finish a project. You work steadily for a while  and pour over the details of each stitch and then... you're done! Projects I take on without a pattern are at first quite daunting I'll admit. I have a perfectionist streak in me so there are times of frustration to be sure - lol. In the end its all worth it though. I have the finalized product and am usually pretty pleased with it. If not, I know much more when I go for round two!

This pattern came to fruition because a friend of mine wanted these for her grandchildren after seeing my tinier version of a zombie - see photos here. I plan to offer the dolls themselves for sale in my etsy shop here.  For those of you who may be smitten with them but don't crochet this is definitely the way to go. They will be offered for a limited time, as the yarns used for at least one of the dolls is discontinued. Speaking of...specifically the pink hair on one of the zombies... (we'll call her strawberry ;) and the other with blue hair blueberry ;)) was discontinued, so I had to do some digging. I was able to find a few people willing to part with a skein or two for the right price to make sure I had enough to work with. Then I set to work. I started out with a large sketch to make sure I liked the proportions of the body, then tried several (about 5 -6 ) different versions of the "Ideal Sphere" to give me the head size I wanted.

FrankenBunny Makes a Debut! Free Pattern Link Included! ;)

Halloween is just around the corner - you know how commercialized the Holidays are anymore so I'm sure you've even seen *gasp* Christmas trees at a few stores... I know I have. But first holidays first ;) Halloween will be here soon, ghosts, ghouls, vikings, sirens, pumpkins and creatures of all kinds will be roaming around looking for candy. My guess is, Frankenbunny and his friend Bunnicula might have been doing just that the night I spotted them... they didn't find my secret stash though! Haha!

I heard some rustling around and put a spotlight on them!

 O.O

At first they froze like a deer in the headlights.

They must have realized I wasn't going to hurt them because they came up to me inquisitively...

Bunnicula kind of got in my face, very curious...

Out of no where R2D2 showed up

and started to regulate the situation... I think they must be traveling somewhere together...

which makes sense really because they were made for a friend who has most of the star wars set and R2D2 wanted to make sure everyone got there in one piece.

Mission was eventually accomplished. *Insert big cheesy grin here*

Want to make your own Bunnicula or FrankenBunny?
Enjoy! Muha

The Latest Progress in Crochet Projects

Wee! Alrighty, to recap the last week in projects...
Here's the latest project I've finished

A Black Ewok hoodie for my friend Ms. Doom Things aka Auntie Gir aka one of my favorite people...
you will understand (and most likely come to the same conclusion) once you read her blog. :D

another project about halfway done...

Huzzah! Bunnicula in the WORKS! :D

and yet a third project that is in the "yarn" stage... where I've selected the colors, but haven't started hooking it just yet.
So for the moment, the yarn sits there... and taunts me... LOL

To be Zombie creations SOON - Muha!

The labels on the colors are for my friend who requested 12 inch tall zombie dolls like the one I made a while ago. I had to do be resourceful and reach out to a few ravelry friends to find Sami's hair color to match the Zombie I'd made a while back as requested.
Here is my model. :)

More crafting to come in the near future!
I hope you'll stay tuned!

When friends bring me a cartoon or drawing to bring to life and the height they want, I have to sketch it  to be sure I get the doll to scale. Above is the sketch I made to use as a guide :).
I recommend anyone who can draw and crochet to use this method. Granted you'll be working the doll up and pulling out the stitches from time to time, but hopefully it will spare some of your time!

Happy creating friends!
