Knit Blueberry Bobble Scarf - Pattern Coming Soon!

The bobble scarf is purple... so it lends itself to.... self naming (?) 

I mean you look at it and you think blueberries... right?! I KNOW you do! It's okay.

 You're among friends and we're with you! ^-^ 

I present the blueberry bobble infinity scarf! Say that ten times fast! ;)

Yes, I'm quite pleased with the scarf. See?

Winter temps have shown their frigid face here in NOVA so the lady who requested the scarf asked that it  be made into an infinity scarf instead of 100 inches long and unconnected
(I was at 60 inches, well on my way! ;)).
 I'm glad she decided to have me join the ends, I think it will be warmer for her this way too!

 I love how it turned out... The folds give it awesome snuggly shape around the neck and face. Yay! 

And now for somethign completely different! A serious profile photo! XD

Oh and a posterized effect of the same one... I was having far too much fun with photo shop! ^-^

Openwork Diamond Scarf - Free Knitting Pattern

I'm so glad to have all the visitors! :)

 I feel it's necessary to tell you while every effort has been made to make this pattern accurate, I don't pretend to have written it as a universal pattern. 

The pattern began as a chart and because there were so many requests for a written pattern, I obliged. I'm not a savvy knitter, but thought it would be fun to share the pattern for free, to allow others who love to craft an opportunity to make it themselves.

This scarf was one of the first items I made for the Etsy shop. 

So much detail went into this pattern! I used a set of Clover Bamboo knitting needles, size 2 ( reads 2 3/4mm on the side). Find a set of your own here. These needles are very tiny indeed! I charted the pattern on loose leaf paper (which is shared later in this post!) 

 and brought this to fruition...

Having come across the charted pattern recently I decided to share it with you! :) 

As mentioned size 2 needles were used. 

I knit with Aunt Lydia's mercerized cotton thread #10. 

Yes, this is the thread one would use to make doilies... as mentioned this scarf is very detailed. It took a while but was worth all the time it took!

NOTE ABOUT EDGING:

 If you are using yarn with a weight of 1 - 3,

I suggest slipping the first stitch of each row purlwise to keep the edges from curling. Working the pattern this way you won't have to block your work.

 If you are using yarn with a weight of 4 or greater, feel free to follow the pattern as written, you more than likely will not need to block.

Handmade with ♥ labels...

A little bit ago I signed up for the yahoo group knitlist ads to see what other knitters were up to :). Recently Sandra of Knitting With Sandra Singh had shared with the group that she was hosting a giveaway where you could win a set of Mountain Street Arts crafting labels. I entered the drawing and when they drew a winner I was *so* excited to find out I had WON! :D

Boot Candy Boot Cuffs for the Sister!

Pinterest is more of a "choose your own adventure" in my opinion... and I love it :). I love finding new crochet ideas there honestly my crochet board is my favorite! :)

At any rate my sisters are also on "board" (ahahaha - pun intended ;)). My older sister came across a pair of boot cuffs she thought was pretty cute (and they are! :) ;)) on pinterest and requested I make a cream colored pair for her. So... insert some of grandma's yarn stash, a few emails, pictures of yarn and phone calls later I started a pair for her! :)

I managed to find two skeins of the same dye lot that were of a cream color. I held two strands of worsted weight as I worked these beauties up! I know my tension varies when I knit (depending how crazy the day has been :)) so I casted on both cuffs to circular size 10 needles and worked them flat to keep the size consistent. I wasn't sure how working with both ends of the skein would work out, thinking maybe I'd have a bit of tangling going on once I had to turn for a new row but figured out a system. I'm happy to report there was minimal tangling! :) 4 days later I have pictures to share! :) :) These work up quickly and I love the versatility! :)

Just kidding ^-^ but I've done a few infinity scarves in the past few weeks and one I'm still not sure it will be added to the shop or not but I'm sharing photos here of the fruits of my labor. Good news - I was able to score some of the discontinued TLC Red Amore yarn I was desperately seeking this past week on ebay (yay!) so I will be able to make many, many more santa hats, maybe for years to come lol :) due to the amount coming my way! 

Back to the custom orders I have in queue... I attached the horns the knit viking hat tonight - ta da! :) 

A baby cocoon was also requested from the customer who got the viking hat - here are the pieces I plan on using. They wanted gender neutral and natural yarn to be used with wooden buttons. The buttons I had from an awesome trade with an etsian last year, I'm looking forward to seeing this come to fruition :). 

The show.. must go on!

I've been able to find some of the discontinued TLC Amore yarn I'm looking for on Ebay but I won't know until tomorrow night if the yarn is mine... so in the interim I finished the set of horns (YES!! ^-^) ...and am super excited to share them with you!! Well with any luck (and blessings from above giving me amazing favor ;))  I will be able to tell you tomorrow night that not only do I have discontinued yarn coming my way BUT I've completed my first knit viking hat with horns! :) I finished the second  horn tonight and am very pleased with how they turned out! I'm very proud of the fact that I was able to work these up with a line curving up each of them further adding some realism to these knitted horns... and I owe it all to the idiots guide of knitting and crocheting book that taught me the basics years ago... no joke :).   I'll be sewing them onto the hat if not tonight then tomorrow and it will most definitely be sent out Saturday.

Viking Hat gets an Upgrade for a Baby...

Dats right! What? I mean why not? :) If ever someone should don a I'm-gonna-kick-yer-butt viking hat why shouldn't it be a baby? :) In all fairness he's over 6 months old okay? I'm sure he can hold his own ;).

Hahaha :) Joking aside I'm really excited about this project. It came to me as a custom order and I'm writing up the pattern as I go. Mad skillz I know right? ;) The hat is a mix of knit and crochet. Its true I struggled through the main part of the hat, just setting up the base, the canvas if you will... when it comes to making the decreases needed for the crown of a hat, how many wedges you create as you decrease matters! It can really alter the look... so it took me a few tries and much grumbling... I think I had too much coffee ;P and when I'm not seeing progress I wonder just how long is a project really going to take me... more grumble cakes... oye vey... but I did it! I finished the base of the hat, then knit the "plate" and crocheted the "rivets" and sewed them on. I had to make up an ewok that was ordered earlier last week so this is where the project lies. I plan on adding some kick ass horns sometime this week with furry cuffs (oh yes ;)) and will update as I can.

Fall is in the air! This means hats and blankets people!

Indeed! My sister will be off running a 10 miler tomorrow morning and I just cannot get past the chill in the air to go root her on! Okay actually, no, its more because I will not get up in the wee hours of Sunday. That, that's the truth... :)

It's Saturday! I love me some Saturdays! This Saturday was a trip to pick up the sister running packet then to  Michael's to get some yarn for my next custom order! O.o It's true I have a list of orders at the moment and its true I get a little overwhelmed at times and wonder if I should be out and about (doing what I'm not sure ;) ) on a Saturday but I really love being productive and seeing the fruits of my labor okay?! ;)

Speaking of progress.. I must show you something... I found out each row of squares takes me about an hour - hey no one said handmade items were made overnight ;)

I'm still deciding who this will go to and how big I'll make it (who it goes to will be the deciding factor of course :)) but I think in the end I'll be making 3 of these kind of blankets. Each will be full of fall/winter colors and different textures. I love it! ^-^

Onto the custom order! A baby viking hat is in the works! Here is the loot from our trip to Michael's this morning :) (no worries, I paid for it...and used a coupon.. haha :)) This my friends is the beginning of my next pattern making venture... my first knit pattern venture... cover your ears there may be cursing! :) Just kidding, just kidding...

Fast and Furious Lacy Scarf - with FREE Pattern

I like to knit through the back loop when knitting. This is something I discovered I did when I'd try a pattern and end up making the finished item much too tight. I knit continental (vs. english style) too for what its worth :). At any rate I recently tried out a pattern and while working up the pattern wondered to myself if this scarf would turn out quite different from the photos of other scarves I've seen using this stitch or not. I'm 3/4 of the way done with the scarf and realize knitting through the back loop only makes all the difference and am now able to share the pattern with you because of my knitting laziness lol :). 

The scarf works up quickly, so keep this pattern in your back pocket if you need to make a last minute gift for someone!

The stitch is worked in multiples of two. For this specific scarf I casted on 26 stitches and worked it until I almost ran out of yarn (leaving enough to FO and weave in the ends).

What you will need:

-         Any size needles you want to use

-         As much yarn as you want to use up! :)

Gauge does not matter – this pattern is meant to be fun – go wild! :)

Worked in Multiples of 2 – cast on an even number of stitches and remember to WORK THROUGH BACK LOOP ONLY (tblo) for all stitches. Also, abbreviation YO equates to Yarn Over.

          Row 1: K1(tblo), *YO, K2tog (tblo)* repeat to end, K1(tblo).

Repeat this row over and over again until you’ve reached the desired length and bind off.

Once you get going, if you have any issues I recorded this video to help you out. Please feel free to leave a comment if you have any issues though. I'm here to help!

Classy Crochet Scarf in Real Teal Yo!

 My parents and older sister from Iowa came to visit this weekend, so I had some tv and driving time to crochet :) I originally was looking for a pattern to knit this yarn with...

For real this is made from Real Teal! :) A beautiful teal from Red Heart Solids and I simply could not pass it up! I eventually found a worth while pattern that was textured and had some pretty edging. I changed the pattern a bit so the edging was more to my liking and here you have it :)
