Blueba & Boba Fett - Star Wars Amigurumi

If you've been following this blog for any length of time you'll know I am *super* picky when it comes to colors... I'm usually a pretty good judge of what will work and when I'm not, I usually don't get too far into a project before I change my mind. This project was the exception.

I'm a star wars fan as far as I'll watch the movies and enjoy them, but it stops there. My husband however, is a fan as well as many of his friends. All of which I'm thankful for, it helps me to appreciate movies in a much different way than I ever would have otherwise. In this instance, my husband was very instrumental in how this project turned out. My sister and I went to Michael's to find the sacred color for Boba Fett's main color. The pattern from Lucyravenscar looks like a mild variegated green blue. Cuyahoga Valley would have been perfect Michaels did NOT have this color though... womp womp... so my sister and I grabbed a navy blue/teal blue blend by Lions Brand - their heartland series color - glacier ( I LOVE THIS series by the way! All the earthy colors are GORGEOUS and make me happier than they should ;)) I went home, worked up 2 heads and the main body showed it to my husband that night to see what he thought and he lovingly told me Boba Fett's uniform/armor was not blue, if anything I could do gray. I pulled out all the green yarn I had as well to show him because having spent 5 hours working on the Boba Fetts I had already I was discouraged and needed him to back me on the fact that I did not have the right kind of green to make it look like Boba Fett. :) To my relief, he agreed all the green yarns I had were much too dark. I felt my trip to Michaels was validated and he even went on to say I need to get more yarn - lol - true story ;). Since I'm looking for a job I'm not about to run out again to be tempted Michaels, my husband said gray would work, which made me quite happy. I have lots of shades of gray. ^-^ The next day I worked on the gray Boba Fett and took a few pictures of the pair. My husband is keeping the blue guy and he gave him a fitting name of Blueba Fett. I love it! :) He totally helped me redeem my time and added his wonderful humor - lol it's good stuff. ^

At any rate I hope you like the set here too! They are definitely not your run of the mill Boba Fett amigurumi's. :) ...and I'm okay with that. ♥

Who Could Forget... Mr. Bomb Omb?

Who could forget Marios Bros Nintendo Game? Growing up I would look forward to going to my grandparents or the neighbor kids place because - hello - hey had a Nintendo!! I was not very good at Mario Brothers games. Throw any version of that game at me and I had fun playing it but was not about to be saving the princess any time soon, or ever. Yeah, never ever... ^-^. But that's okay! I still have fond memories of playing the game and seeing it progress to the point where Mario could ride on a Yoshi and do amazing and incredible things! Still, no saving the princess for me lol.

In any case, a few years back a request for a Mario Bomb Omb plush was submitted to me and I recently was complimented on the design. Complement = Dawn encouraged and inspired = must share with the world!

Also, a few years back I was asked to make a basketball size Bom Omb - did I oblige this request?! YES. Unfortunately I can only find a few pics of this large dude. Wish I would have taken more!! :D

Princess Leia Crocheted Hat for 3 - 6 Month Old

Hello friends! A coworker of mine recently found out she was going to be an auntie! She's pretty sure that they'll be having a girl and requested a Princess Leia hat be made.

Over the course of a few days I figured out a pattern using double crochet throughout and then stitched together braided yarn to look like hair buns. Since I wasn't 100% sure how big the babies head will be, I decided I would make it bigger than for your typical newborn so they had something to grow into versus the hat possibly being too small. I used dimensions from crochetgeek.com for a 3 - 6 month old. Circumference of 14 inches with hat height of 5 1/2 inches.

Sometimes it amazes me how something as simple as attaching 2 faux hair buns to a crochetted hat transforms it from an otherwise boring hat to "omigoodness that's so cute!" kind of hat! :)  See! :D

Fall Colored Throw Blanket - Done

I started this blanket September 17th 2012. I've been working on it between other projects and am so pleased to tell you, that as of this morning... it's done! :) I'm so pleased with how it turned out that I've taken a copious amount of photos (...and I plan to take more!!) and sharing them in an extra large format.

 I'm glad I went with the blue edging... as I was finishing the last edging row I was excited to see it done (as you can imagine ;)). Though, I think if I make another one I'd finish it with a gray edging... maybe a simple acrylic gray edging, just to change it up and create a clean edge. The blue really pulls out the hues in the blanket, they all dance to my eye. I appreciate that I had enough different colors and textures to randomly select from as I worked on it as I think it adds an eclectic log cabin cozy feel. I am reminded of the photos you see on pinterest, of the stacks of linens, blankets or quilts that make you want to curl up with a good book and grab ALL the blankets from the stack! :)

Are you wondering how long this took to make?Are you *sure* you want to know?  Each square row of color took an hour to crochet. The edging itself took at least 20 hours in total. Final measurements are: 49" x 65"

I stayed consistent on the edges, all had a diamond ripple effect. This of course meant going back through to  each of the edge colors and adding stitches... well. worth it.I would do it again, just add the diagonal as I did the rows so I wouldn't have to go back, adding half a square to each of the rows was a tedious and daunting task, but once a handmade blanket is done, it's done! ;)

Free Pattern for Crocheted Leprechaun Shoe

Last year on St. Patrick's Day, a creative mom used Lostsentiments Green St. Patrick's Day Hat to give her kids the impression that a leprechaun had left it behind! :) Since the hat was such a hit, this year she requested I make a leprechaun shoe! :) So I whipped up this pattern and decided to share it here with you!

Leprechaun Shoe Pattern

Yarn: Worsted Weight

Hook Size: 8 / H 5.00mm

Finished size: Approximately 2 inches long, 1 1/4 inches tall and 1 inches wide. 

Note: I recommend starting with the Magic Circle Technique, 

if this technique is new to you then find a step by step "how to" here.

Round 1: Sc 6 in magic circle (6)

Round 2: Sc 1, Inc 1, Inc 1, Sc 1, Inc 1, Inc 1 (10)

Round 3: Slst 2, Sc 1, Inc 1, Inc 1, Slst3, Inc 1, Inc 1 (14)

Round 4: Slst 4, Inc 1, Inc 2, Inc 1, Sc1 

From here, you will start working in the back loop only, 

                 Sc 6 to end of round (18)

Round 5: Sc 12 in back loop only,  Sc 6 in both loops around (18)

Round 6: Sc2, Dec1, Sc2, Inc1, Inc 1, Sc 2, Dec1, Sc 6, (18)

Round 7: Slst3, Sc2, Dec1, Dec1, Sc 2, Ch1, turn

        Row 1: Sc1, Dec1, Dec1, Sc 1, 

        Thread yarn through the remaining loops and pull tight. 

        Weave in ends

***Switch to yellow yarn***

Row 1: Sc 2 in center of shoe "bill".

Row 2: Ch 1 turn, Sc 2, weave in ends. 

Shoe should looke like Figure 1 below.

Fold yellow bill down towards the tip of the shoe like in Figure 2 above.

Take about 10 inches of black yarn and back stitch around the yellow until it looks like a buckle. Weave in ends and enjoy!

A Hunting I Will Go... Have you seen the pattern for this doily?

Hello Friends!

About once a year my parents come visit us from Iowa. With them they normally bring some fun trinkets and items we need but don't always have on hand, ie. rubberbands, dental floss, chapsticks, etc. And then other presents! :D My mom is really a very good gift giver. She's thoughtful and keen to observe when there is a need, she's always trying to make a persons life easier, if she can fill a need with something for someone she does it. I grew up watching her do this so I truly attribute my own gift giving "eye" to her teaching me to be observant in this way too. Thank you mom! :)

Mom and Dad had helped my brothers friend out when he lost his parents. :( Come to find out my brothers friends mom was a crafter. She had a lot of cotton yarn (as you might or might not remember) and had started three doilies... One I was able to finish, the other I decided it looked done and now use it as a center piece on our table :). The third one though I would like to finish but it did not come with a pattern. I realize I might be able to figure it out if I had more time (and this was my only project - ha! hahahaha! ;) That never happens :)) I'd say it's been 2 years now since mom gave me this doily. I would really like to finish it. It's beautiful. Every doily that's started deserves to be finished... What with 8 inch doilies being sold for a mere $2.00 made by a machine... saying I have a ridiculously huge doily HANDMADE, well, these are heirlooms then. :)

Dried Flowers, Wooden Crochet Hooks & Fall Blanket Progress...

Yesterday my husband and I helped our neighbors move. The house they were moving from was a little bigger than ours and they moved into an even bigger house. After the move I realized two things, 1) our house is not all that big and 2) we don't really have that much stuff, we just have almost zero storage space. 

I was doing laundry yesterday and ended up in our white room sorting through dried flowers and the desk (someday I will have all my craft stuff organized ;) someday). I tossed a few of the dried flowers and then organized the rest to keep for potential photo props later :). I snapped a few pics of the flowers before putting them away because I wanted to share them with you!

Yesterday I received my first ever Furls Crochet hook! 

Furls was sweet to send me some complimentary thread with the package! 

Today I'm hoping to get back to my Fall Blanket. I've just about finished the body of the blanket. I might work one more row of squares if I find a color I like to add to one of the ends. Otherwise, the yarn pictured next to the blanket are the ones I plan to use for the edging. Can you believe this blanket is 45 inches wide by 60 inches long? I'm so pleased with how its turned out so far. 

I'm sure to do a post later with lots of photos. I really like this blanket! 

What else am I working on at the moment? I'm glad you asked! :) I'm also working on 2 Jayne Hat's and hope to have at least one done before the end of today but we'll see ;) So many projects, so little time! :) 

Crocheted Yoda Hat for a lil boys 1st Birthday Party!

A friend of mine requested I make a yoda hat for a boy she nannies - for his 1st birthday!

I got to tap into my cotton yarn stash to make this lil number :) A hank an a half later you have a yoda hat! :D

It was a treasure hunt finding a site that would give me an idea for children's hat measurements. I stumbled up on a blog called Alli Crafts and thought it had a really good layout and lots of helpful information - so of course I share the blog/link with you here. Though I didn't use her pattern the dimenstion for the diameter and the guide for the earflap stitches were helpful.

The ears.. well the ears were tricky for me. Which was kind of annoying because I was initally going off of Tangled Threads and Random Thoughts yoda hat post which you'll notice has a mere 3 lines to follow. Easy right? ;) One would think! I know I was busy chatting with my husabnd or sister and watching tv, but once I finally focused on the directions long enough to work up an ear and found it to be too short for the yoda look I wanted. I did a bunch of measuring, of photos of yoda's head, of my hat and realized something...Did you know that each of yoda's ears are about 75% as long as his head is wide? Pretty ridiculous. But he is a wise one - so the way I figure it - he learned to use his ears ;) listening more than he spoke. What do you think? :)

Armed with the knowledge of my own guage and then how long each ear would be I started with a chain of 26 and worked the ears like Tangles Threads and Random Thoughts instructed. Later folding the ears to my liking and attached them to the hat! :) Do you like it? I hope its a hit at the birthday party! :D

The next yarn colors as I continue working on the harlequin pattern blanket aka the fall blanket are... 

I'm not going to list the names of each of the colors, I'll just let the photo speak for itself... As I was grabbing the colors and lining them up I got excited about the blanket all over again and want to share this with you!

Newest Cocoon Addition...

I had an idea a few months ago to work up this cocoon. Something about the ruffles... I was swooning at the idea of making this. I'm so glad to be sharing it with you! :)
