A Dreamy Reality

People who have spent a good few hours with me (outside of work mind you ;)) normally have a sense that I'm a bit of a dreamer. I have this world in my head that's full of castles, prairies, forests, doilies, flora & fauna, cottages and tree houses. Where people get together, have coffee or tea, swing on their tree swings, embroider or knit while donned in ruffled & lacy dresses. Groups of women get together to talk about how their family members are doing. Where kids say their prayers before bed and then nestle under a handmade quilt or afghan  that's been loved on so much it's edges are worn and have the sweetest of dreams.
Where women do the laundry, hang it out to dry & lovingly cook meals for their family with vegetables she's grown from her own garden.

*****

This of course is a pipe dream - there aren't many who live in this kind of a world unless they are stuck in a century long ago and they would probably not be as comfortable as we are today with our washing machines, our air conditioners, our televisions, etc. But its a reality I play in my head nonetheless.
It's also the kind of beauty I am attracted to and tend to decorate with in my home.
It's eclectic but lovely at the same time :) I assure you ;).

Today while on facebook I was reminded of this reality by the status of Flutterbydaisy, who was sharing a few recent listings... This number caught my eye:

This would be one of the outfits I would rock while frolicking through my dream world. ^-^
The ruffles, the bows, the lace, the long hair... the hearts on the tights. I love it all!
I enjoy the styling of FlutterbyDaisy's shop and decided I'd share them with you, to show you some of my world. :)
I hope to share posts like this more often in the future.
A fun way to paint my world and show it to you!

Handmade with ♥ labels...

A little bit ago I signed up for the yahoo group knitlist ads to see what other knitters were up to :). Recently Sandra of Knitting With Sandra Singh had shared with the group that she was hosting a giveaway where you could win a set of Mountain Street Arts crafting labels. I entered the drawing and when they drew a winner I was *so* excited to find out I had WON! :D

Since the labels are super cute and I really appreciate Pam and Sandra for collaborating on the giveaway I wanted to show you guys my labels! :D And give you links to find them too if you like what you see. :)

Thanks for viewing and to Pam and Sandra for the giveaway! :D I ♥ my labels! ^-^

Cups of Vintage Love...

...abound! ^-^

The newest etsy crush I have is on a shop called LostInIvorySeas which I happened upon while being "lost" in the great etsy abyss!  I love the way they photograph their items, off centered (ftw!)...  complete with a homey background color and what looks to be linen/cotton table cloth... ahhh... so natural...
then, as I delved deeper into all the items they have to offer I noticed the succulents in many of their vintage cups!
*I want! I want! ^-^*

Of all the lovely items though I'd say this one is my favsies...

I very much appreciate the craftmanship of both the cups and saucers. In high school I took a pottery class and know the work that goes into this kind of project. Awe, I miss getting my hands dirty like that ^-^.

Anyways, please check out LostInIvorySeas shop for more home decor items that may have you swooning too ;).

I'm looking for items to fill a blank frame in the study right now...

looking up "leaf art" I found this piece. The jury is still out on what I'll be getting for the frame but wanted to share this piece because this is a talented artist!

I'm inspired to use a few of my own dried leaves as a project like this in the future! ^-^

Pin them for later here.

Lastly, this lovely work of art my sister shared with me... she had found it on facebook.
This beautiful video shows the amazing things one can do with their body after working and disciplining themselves... this is *so* graceful! These two seem to dance flawlessly!
So much strength, poise, control & trust!
Though the song doesn't have words watching them is so inspiring! I had to share!

Ahhh art! :)

It begs the reminder though... if no ones told you lately :) ;)... you have your own beauty... unique only to you... let your light shine :).

Whisper Twisters Lovely Crochet Designs

Whisper Twister Designs is a beautiful Etsy shop I discovered through Pinterest
I saw a picture of one of her lovely cowl designs and had to make it for myself!
I purchased her cowl pattern and worked this up over a few days.

Smitten with the design I went back to her shop and purchased the matching fingerless mitts pattern

After swooning over the designs in her shop a time or two now, I was intrigued - where do her design ideas come from? How long has she being crocheting? Whisper Twisters graciously answered my questions and I was excited for an opportunity to share a bit of her story and her designs here. Her designs truly bring a lil bit more pretty into the world and I'm thankful for her talents :)

Here are a few of her designs I especially like:

If you are on Ravelry - her designs can be found there as well. :)

~♥♥♥~ Thank you again Whisper Twisters for taking the time to answer my questions! :) ~♥♥♥~

How long have you been crocheting and designing?
I learned to crochet when I was 6 years old, but I seriously took it up again few years ago when I decided to make a scarf for myself. I remember how I was sitting outside in one summer and just had to finish it.... I have been hooked ever since.

This is awesome - I can understand just having to finish an item! After I taught myself to crochet in the Air Force I was up late one night and one of the Sergeants came by to make sure our lights were off - I was up awake in bed working on a scarf, I had to quickly put it away.  lol ☺

What is your favorite part of the creative process?
Definitely buying the yarn - there is so much promise in one skein of yarn... And nowadays there are so many wonderful yarn brands and stores around. I travel quite a lot and truly enjoy getting to know yarn brands of different countries.

When it comes to yarn I completely agree - there is SO much promise in a single skein of yarn. I love it! ☺Great minds think alike ;).
What most inspires your designs?
I guess I just get an idea in my head and try to work it out (usually everything turns out a bit different from my idea, but that is not necessarily a bad thing).

Who taught you how to crochet?
My first teachers were my mother and grandmother and the school teacher (in our school, everyone had to learn to crochet and knit, even the boys!).

Which of your designs is your favorite?
I cannot really choose - I like them all. But I enjoy crocheting the Sand Light gloves the best. I think I have crocheted over hundred pairs of them already.

Over 100 pairs?!?! Awesome! ☺

Are there any designers who inspired your works?
I get a lot of inspiration from my fellow designers in ETSY and Pinterest.
What fibers do you like to work with most?
All Alpaca blends.

What is your favorite color?
Ivory white.

Love me some neutral colors! ♥ I love the grays you use in your shop as well!

I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about Whisper Twisters Crochet Designs! :) Until next time - happy hooking! :D ;)  ♥ ~Dawn

Journals... Nice Journals... More than $3 Journals...

when I get a really nice journal I hesitate to write in it - honestly... I normally opt for a notebook that was .50 and scribble the crap out of it in putting down my thoughts. I used to journal quite frequently before I was married, I didn't have a close friend in VA - all my friends were back at home, those who had been there physically with me through lots of things... I think my thoughts were probably overwhelming though... and they never stop... so to a journal I went to repeat myself in different fluid ways... not very often would I look back on my pages... in a sense with a journal, your thoughts are noted but you note them to be forgotten and leave the rubble behind... the substance of what you discovered comes with you though... I've thrown away and discarded the journals I logged much heart ache in.. I've written poetry and pulled poems out of my writing in the past... maybe should get back to it before I go to bed and just dump my thoughts then...

I love journals though, do not get me wrong! They are an art in themselves and it's funny how a binded, hand made piece can be so moving just to look at :) I sometimes think I should write in my best handwriting to add to it :) :D

Blank pages before you... a story to unfold... of joy, heart ache, struggle, endurance, encouragement to yourself... treasures to be realized within yourself... exciting indeed!

I have friends on Etsy who would love to have you embark on your own journal journey and provide you with the canvas... please feel free to visit Robynsart Etsy Shop. Robyn is currently embarking in a journey of journal making and would love to come alongside you with your journal writing! PaintingPam is mixing up her journals using lots of fibers - and flowers! :) Please stop by both shops and have a look see! :D

Thank you for reading!
