Blueba & Boba Fett - Star Wars Amigurumi

If you've been following this blog for any length of time you'll know I am *super* picky when it comes to colors... I'm usually a pretty good judge of what will work and when I'm not, I usually don't get too far into a project before I change my mind. This project was the exception.

I'm a star wars fan as far as I'll watch the movies and enjoy them, but it stops there. My husband however, is a fan as well as many of his friends. All of which I'm thankful for, it helps me to appreciate movies in a much different way than I ever would have otherwise. In this instance, my husband was very instrumental in how this project turned out. My sister and I went to Michael's to find the sacred color for Boba Fett's main color. The pattern from Lucyravenscar looks like a mild variegated green blue. Cuyahoga Valley would have been perfect Michaels did NOT have this color though... womp womp... so my sister and I grabbed a navy blue/teal blue blend by Lions Brand - their heartland series color - glacier ( I LOVE THIS series by the way! All the earthy colors are GORGEOUS and make me happier than they should ;)) I went home, worked up 2 heads and the main body showed it to my husband that night to see what he thought and he lovingly told me Boba Fett's uniform/armor was not blue, if anything I could do gray. I pulled out all the green yarn I had as well to show him because having spent 5 hours working on the Boba Fetts I had already I was discouraged and needed him to back me on the fact that I did not have the right kind of green to make it look like Boba Fett. :) To my relief, he agreed all the green yarns I had were much too dark. I felt my trip to Michaels was validated and he even went on to say I need to get more yarn - lol - true story ;). Since I'm looking for a job I'm not about to run out again to be tempted Michaels, my husband said gray would work, which made me quite happy. I have lots of shades of gray. ^-^ The next day I worked on the gray Boba Fett and took a few pictures of the pair. My husband is keeping the blue guy and he gave him a fitting name of Blueba Fett. I love it! :) He totally helped me redeem my time and added his wonderful humor - lol it's good stuff. ^

At any rate I hope you like the set here too! They are definitely not your run of the mill Boba Fett amigurumi's. :) ...and I'm okay with that. ♥

The Latest Progress in Crochet Projects

Wee! Alrighty, to recap the last week in projects...
Here's the latest project I've finished

A Black Ewok hoodie for my friend Ms. Doom Things aka Auntie Gir aka one of my favorite people...
you will understand (and most likely come to the same conclusion) once you read her blog. :D

another project about halfway done...

Huzzah! Bunnicula in the WORKS! :D

and yet a third project that is in the "yarn" stage... where I've selected the colors, but haven't started hooking it just yet.
So for the moment, the yarn sits there... and taunts me... LOL

To be Zombie creations SOON - Muha!

The labels on the colors are for my friend who requested 12 inch tall zombie dolls like the one I made a while ago. I had to do be resourceful and reach out to a few ravelry friends to find Sami's hair color to match the Zombie I'd made a while back as requested.
Here is my model. :)

More crafting to come in the near future!
I hope you'll stay tuned!

Princess Leia Crocheted Hat for 3 - 6 Month Old

Hello friends! A coworker of mine recently found out she was going to be an auntie! She's pretty sure that they'll be having a girl and requested a Princess Leia hat be made.

Over the course of a few days I figured out a pattern using double crochet throughout and then stitched together braided yarn to look like hair buns. Since I wasn't 100% sure how big the babies head will be, I decided I would make it bigger than for your typical newborn so they had something to grow into versus the hat possibly being too small. I used dimensions from crochetgeek.com for a 3 - 6 month old. Circumference of 14 inches with hat height of 5 1/2 inches.

Sometimes it amazes me how something as simple as attaching 2 faux hair buns to a crochetted hat transforms it from an otherwise boring hat to "omigoodness that's so cute!" kind of hat! :)  See! :D

***UPDATE: I truly just like sharing my finished items... but due to popular demand, I've created a listing for this hat for all sizes (please check the dimensions in the listing). I will be offering this hat for a limited time. Feel free to grab more than one ;) Find the hat HERE.

Father and Daughter Yub Nub Scoodies

Are you sick of seeing these yet?! I sure hope not! :D They are the last two I'll make for a while but I am elated to be giving them to a dear friend who will in the end had a family set! :D

The green scoodie came out larger than I’d anticipated, but you know, sometimes that happens! :) Luckily grown men have larger heads, so this scoodie went from “Oh my friends lil girl will grow into it” to  "Oh my friends husband will appreciate this, especially since his wife and baby will already have one!” Ergo - it's a daddy hat! :)
Yep. It’s all in how you spin it :) ;).

Here's hoping my friend will use the set for a Christmas card sheninnigans butcha know its really okay if not too! ;) They're a super fun family, I'm just glad they'll appreciate having a set! :D Yes.

Light Pink Baby Yub Nub Scoodie

I know... this might be excessive... I mean, I've made an orange, a hot pink, a dark green and a dark purple scoodie already, so really? A baby yub nub scoodie? Well yes of course! XD I have lot of Star Wars friends okay? And one is expecting so I have to oblige this... aren't you glad I did?! I am... I'm very glad. I want to make myself one in the same color scheme honestly but I don't know when I would wear it! ;)

Alright, begin the oohhhing and ahhhhing :D The baby yub nub scoodie pattern is by the same person who wrote the pattern for the adult size yub nub and can be found on ravelry here

Scoodies Galore!

You might remember my post about the pair of Ewok lovebirds scoodies not too long ago... well because my friend shared with the rest of the office the adorableness that is the Yub Nub Scoodies... more were requested.

One for a grandmother (purple), one for a son (green)... one for a friend of mine that loved the pink I used and wanted one just like it, which of course meant that I would be making her adorable daughter one too (still in the works ;))! Because I love them both ;). Last but not least... I made one especially for a 3 year old... who loves the twilight sparkle pony character. So instead of the ears, we have a unicorn horn!!! :D

Yes, the pattern for the horn is mine, yes, I wrote down the pattern as I went and yes I will share it with  you! All in good time ;). Be sure to stay tuned! I'll share the link in this post as well once I have it set up. :)

***UPDATE: cLiCk HERE for the unicorn horn pattern.***

...Twilight sparkle herself ^-^ for a point of reference :).

I hope you were inspired by the photos! :)

And then there was a *PINK* Ewok!

...right... okay not really. This is for pretend and creative uses but of course! :D Worn when there just must be more pink, more sparkly & more fun in your day. Yup, that's what I say! ;)

Since a pink yub nub might be followed and admired by a orange yub nub why not share the pair right? :) Here you go... my latest makings of the star wars kind. Requested by a friend :)
Pattern can be found on ravelry for a free download here.

Crocheted Yoda Hat for a lil boys 1st Birthday Party!

A friend of mine requested I make a yoda hat for a boy she nannies - for his 1st birthday!

I got to tap into my cotton yarn stash to make this lil number :) A hank an a half later you have a yoda hat! :D

It was a treasure hunt finding a site that would give me an idea for children's hat measurements. I stumbled up on a blog called Alli Crafts and thought it had a really good layout and lots of helpful information - so of course I share the blog/link with you here. Though I didn't use her pattern the dimenstion for the diameter and the guide for the earflap stitches were helpful.

The ears.. well the ears were tricky for me. Which was kind of annoying because I was initally going off of Tangled Threads and Random Thoughts yoda hat post which you'll notice has a mere 3 lines to follow. Easy right? ;) One would think! I know I was busy chatting with my husabnd or sister and watching tv, but once I finally focused on the directions long enough to work up an ear and found it to be too short for the yoda look I wanted. I did a bunch of measuring, of photos of yoda's head, of my hat and realized something...Did you know that each of yoda's ears are about 75% as long as his head is wide? Pretty ridiculous. But he is a wise one - so the way I figure it - he learned to use his ears ;) listening more than he spoke. What do you think? :)

Armed with the knowledge of my own guage and then how long each ear would be I started with a chain of 26 and worked the ears like Tangles Threads and Random Thoughts instructed. Later folding the ears to my liking and attached them to the hat! :) Do you like it? I hope its a hit at the birthday party! :D

Wicket Hide and Seek Fun

While watching the Addams Family today I finalized an Ewok for a friend in Washington. After putting him together I then worked on a custom order for an embroidered carabiner strap for another friend. After finalizing the needlework, taking pictures and writing up a blogpost for it, it was time to turn my attention to the wicket I made. Only I couldn't find him. Who'd have thought I'd find him in the study hanging around trying to blend in with the decorations there... I saw him...

Hanging out with the tiger pipe... I see you wicket!

Wicket trying to blend in...

Then he hopped onto the other side of the scotch bottle! And tried to run... silly wicket!
I got him cornered!
...we had a quick chat, he's going to Washington, he can't stay here, its settled...
I won't pay as much attention to him as my friend will, he is going to a good place. At the moment I'm happy to report he's done playing hide and go seek, he's setting quietly near my computer... ☺

Anyways, this was all so involved and fun while it lasted I just wanted to share it with you - the blog readers ☺ Who are getting an ear full from me lately ☺ Thank you for reading! I love to write you about the adventures that happen in the suburbs of DC, where its not as safe to go outside the house as it is to stay inside - bhahaha. ☺ No, its just cold out there right now, the calendar says its spring but the weather is shouting back "Winter!" They are calling for 1 - 3 inches of snow tonight... back to working on the blanket for me I guess ;).

Till next time! Thanks for reading! ♥ Dawn

TIME Magazine Doesn't Disappoint!

I came home today to an envelope from TIME Magazine! :) How fun! :) I opened the envelope and to my surprise there were 3 copies of the   Vol. 181 No. 6 edition that features R2D2! :)

TIME Magazine must truly be all business as there wasn't a letter, just the magazine's :). Receiving these copies though is appreciated as I might have missed out on getting a copy! :)

Here he is! :D In the business section!

R2D2 Came Home!

And in one piece! :) I'm sure C3PO would be pleased! ;)

Shortly after I discovered R2 was home, I snapped this pic to commemorate his trip to TIME Magazine and then started making dinner. About the time I was letting my husband know dinner was ready I noticed I had an email from Neil Harris (the Photo Editor that contacted me for R2)! The email contained the pdf of the story they were doing on Etsy with R2 on the front page! He's looking quite good as you can imagine :). The description of the items that were shared did not mention the shops or designers but really, that's okay :). I had hoped for a lot but assumed nothing. For all I knew R2D2 could have not shown up at TIME Magazine's doorstep at all and gotten lost in the FedEx abyss... which reminds me...

I sent R2 FedEx priority overnight Monday after getting home from work, the very day I'd been contacted to send him out. I knew R2 needed to arrive by Wednesday, at the latest Thursday and I wanted the peace of mind that he was there. Tuesday came and FedEx tracking confirmed he'd been dropped off at 10:19AM. Nice, nice. :)

Wednesday night rolls around and I get an email from Neil asking if FedEx confirmed delivery... lol - I was thinking "huh?!?" Maybe the story ends here... he did mention that it might be in their mail room yet, but it does make one wonder just how big can a companies mail room be? But this is me, Dawn, small town thinking and we're taking big apple business world, I don't pretend to know the inner workings... lol. I let him know FedEx confirmed delivery and to keep me posted. When Neil came back saying they found R2, the obvious response was HUZZAH! :) Neil had saved the day. ^-^

That's the story so far as I know it now :). The article will be released  Vol. 181 No. 6 and I'll let you know if anything should change for me once it does.

As always, thanks for reading and thank you for your support on my creative journey wherever it may take me. :)

TIME Magazine, R2D2 & Lostsentiments?

Yesterday I was contacted by one of TIME Magazines Associate Photo Editors - they will be doing an article on the evolution of Etsy some time in the future and they said they really liked my R2D2 (!) and that while they had contacted Lucy (the original designer of the R2D2 pattern) whey wouldn't be able to get an R2 from her in time for the shoot and was hoping I'd be able to send them mine. Um... YEAH! :D Luckily I already had one made up and ready to go! I sent it off last night via FedEx to be sure that R2D2 would arrive in time for the shoot. While I hope they will get some kick butt photos of R2D2 to use him in the article I'm just elated that they contacted me! I'd say it's quite a compliment and how cool to be a little part of TIME Magazine history? Yes please :). Also the Photo Editor did say they'd be sharing my shops name in the article too.. so crazy... crazy cool :). Needless to say I'm pretty excited. :) And still in shock. :)

While I'm sure TIME will do R2D2 more justice than my photos could, I'm sharing mine with you so you know what the one I sent looks like :) When I have more information about the article - I'll be sharing. :) For sure! ;) Anyways, thanks for following along with me in this creative journey - wherever it may take me! :)

Busy Week!

Here they are! The finished set of 3 Ewoks going to three separate places as I type! I mailed them off today - one to Germany, one to Texas and one to Missouri!

And earlier in the week I finished the custom order for my co-worker, here is Laura's collar necklace! Laura was so patient with me getting this to her! And because of her patience I was able to make two of these necklaces and am offering the second in the shop! :) Laura was so funny, as soon as she put the necklace on she mentions now I need to make cuffs! :) LOL um, I think I can find enough fabric to make that a reality - we shall see :).

After giving Laura her necklaces I showed the second reversible necklace to Brittany (another co-worker :)) and I have an order to make a necklace for her now! :) Exciting times! I hope to get into my fabrics this week sometime to get and idea of what pieces I'll put together for Brittany's necklace (she gave me some guidelines which I leave out for sake of mystery ;)) but I like these necklaces enough that I just may make a handful more :). We shall see! ;)

Thanks for reading!
